Divide telescope focal length by eyepiece focal length. Simple β and often misused.

How it works
Magnification = telescope focal length Γ· eyepiece focal length
Magnification alone does not make a better view: too much magnification just makes a bigger, dimmer blur. Aperture (light gathering and resolution) usually matters more.
